Styled and Savored #010

Your weekly curated guide to great finds that make your home life easier, fuller, richer, and happier.

We’re kicking off this week’s S&S with a couple of DIY projects. Both are simple and easy to complete, but the finished products add a lot to your home’s decor.

The first project is brought to us by the Remodelholic blog, and I have one word for you – brackets. Now, I know you’re probably thinking, “Brackets?!”, but they’re so versatile. You can use them to build shelves, create corbels for a fireplace mantel, dress up your kitchen island with some supports for an overhanging countertop, or decorative doorway corbels that provide a nice visual focal point.

The three bracket designs in the Remodalholic blog post are created from wood, and you can make them as simple or fancy as you like. There are also links to other shelf-related tutorials on the site that will provide a host of additional ideas for you to incorporate into your home. The only limit is your imagination.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

The next DIY project is from a newer blog I’ve recently begun following, and it’s loaded with a ton of fantastic ideas. The one I wanted to show you today is very simple, but it accomplishes two things I’m a big fan of – 1.) It repurposes a second-hand item bought on the cheap, and 2.) The finished product is a very practical and useful item – an antique-looking mirror – that can be created in about 30 minutes.

Nadine Stay is an interior designer who shares tips with the hope of making design less intimidating and more inspiring, and she delivers on these stated goals wonderfully with this project. In addition to the written instructions that guide you step by step through the process, she has also put together a very helpful video tutorial on her Instagram account. I’ve taken the liberty of embedding the video below, but you should definitely visit her website to see the array of interior design resources she has available.

Decorating a round coffee table

Sticking with the topic of interior design, there’s a great post on the Driven by Decor blog with five simple tips on decorating a round coffee table for a stunning finished look.

Round tables can present challenges when it comes to home decor because the irregular shape (and by that I mean not square or rectangular) can be a challenge to work with in a given space, but the article has a handful of wonderful tips that will allow you to create lots of different looks that should work well no matter what style you’re aiming for.

Springtime finger foods and appetizers

Easter is now officially in the rearview mirror, but there are a host of Spring and Summer events coming up on the calendar that will provide you with several opportunities to dazzle your family and friends with new recipes for appetizers and finger foods.

Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, and Father’s Day will be upon us before you know it, so now’s the time to take a gander at the Serious Eats blog because they’ve got 20 examples of tasty morsels that are perfect for any Spring/Summer event. I know they’re billing these dishes as Easter possibilities, but some of these look too good to let fall by the wayside until NEXT Easter.

They’ve got everything from bacon-wrapped shrimp, to Scotch eggs (a personal favorite of mine) as well as Caesar deviled eggs, herby lamb meatballs, and cheesy pull-apart garlic knots, to name just a few.

Bourbon Limoncello Cocktail

Of course, we can’t have tasty vittles without an equally tasty beverage to wash them down with, and this delicious bourbon limoncello cocktail from the Sweet C’s blog will be a refreshing treat on a warm day.

It pairs my favorite spirit – bourbon – with blackberry preserves and the king of Spring and Summer libations – limoncello.

Mix one up for yourself and sit outside on the porch, patio or in the yard under the trees and enjoy!

That’s it for this week. Let us know your thoughts about any or all of the featured posts in this edition of Styled & Savored, and tell us what you’d like to see us cover in future editions as well.
