Styled & Savored #001
Your weekly curated guide to great finds that make your home life easier, fuller, richer, and happier.
We’re starting our first edition of Styled & Savored with a tasty-sounding recipe from one of our favorite foodie blogs, The Kitchn. And if we’re going to share a recipe from a favorite blog, we should make sure it’s a recipe for one of our favorite foods, or better yet TWO of our favorite foods – pizza and lasagne!
The folks over at The Kitchn decided to try a recipe from country music star, Trisha Yearwood that’s been creating some buzz online lately. The performer apparently loves making hearty dishes for her family, and thus created something she calls “Cowboy Lasagna”, which has a healthy(?) dose of pepperoni added to the dish. SIDENOTE: You might have noticed there are two different spellings for lasagne/lasagna. We have a reputation for being grammar cops, so this dual spelling of the famous pasta dish caught our attention. We won’t get into the weeds on this here, but if you’re curious about the correct way to spell lasagne/lasagna, check out this helpful little article from Better Homes & Gardens on the topic. TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read) while both spellings are accurate, we judge lasagne to be MORE correct. ;)
ANYWAY… the peeps at the Kitchn loved the combination of the traditional ingredients of lasagne and pizza because who wouldn’t?! However, they did mention potentially cutting back on the pepperoni – one pound of the spicy sliced meat does seem like a lot – but we’ll be trying this seemingly mouth-watering combo in our own kitchens soon.
If the idea of smashing pizza and lasagne together into one meal is your jam, and you want to cut straight to Trisha’s recipe without all the Kitchn commentary, then go here.
Home Decor Trends
Next up we stumbled upon a fun piece from KBHWriting encapsulating their predictions for the top home decor trends to embrace in 2025. The article covers everything from the hottest colors for interior spaces – bold colors along with warm neutrals and earth tones are in – to personalized wall art displays to outdoor-indoor living spaces to the incredible looks achieved in the maximalist decor approach.
DIY Home Improvement
Being in the business of real estate investment and new home construction, we see a lot of existing homes that have ugly interior doors. Yeah, they’re still functional, but they’re showing their age. Maybe they’ve got a wood-grain finish or just have no pleasing aesthetics to them because they’re just a big, blank slab of a thing.
If you know what it’s like to own an ugly door home, but you just can’t bring yourself to spend the money on new doors – which can cost $2,000-$3,000 for most middle-class homes – then we’ve got a great DIY tip for you from Sherri Durley (AKA the Thrifty Artsy Girl) over on the Hometalk community website.
Sherri shows you how to give your ugly doors a complete makeover for pennies on the dollar relative to the cost of buying brand-new doors. You won’t believe the difference her simple tips made on her wood-grain slabs.
Products You’ll Love
In most of our new homes, we avoid using those old-school blind corner cabinets in the kitchen and replace them with an easy-to-use lazy Susan-style cabinet. Lately though, we’ve been installing more blind corner cabinets because customers have been drawn to an option we’re recommending that allows those blind corner cabinets to be WAY more functional.
VEVOR (along with several other manufacturers) offers a fantastic two-tier floating shelf that pulls right out of a blind cabinet setup. The height of the shelves is adjustable, and they make storing and retrieving items a breeze. No more getting down on your hands and knees and crawling inside the cabinet if you need to dig out that crock pot or blender. You just open the door and pull the shelf out to select the item you need. Simple!
Run, don’t walk, over to Amazon and get yourself one of these VEVOR blind corner floating shelves TODAY! At just $139, you won’t regret it, and your knees and back will thank you.
Last but not least, there’s a really smart product to lift heavy appliances off the floor to make them easier to move and clean underneath. These furniture dollies from Ronlap slide underneath appliances like washing machines, dryers, and refrigerators and allow you to roll them out from their normal space so you can clean away the dust bunnies and lint that inevitably collect underneath. They’re a great solution to a problem that can drive neat freaks crazy.
The dollies are fairly low profile, and they come in three colors (black, gray, and white) to coordinate with your appliances. They’re made of steel and can be adjusted to accommodate appliances of varying size. They have a 660-pound load capacity and a brake that you can use to lock the wheels in place so there’s no risk of movement when the appliance is in it’s normal position. All for a measly $22.49.
The only question we have is where have these things been all our lives?
