Styled and Savored #007
Your weekly curated guide to great finds that make your home life easier, fuller, richer, and happier.
In this week’s edition of S&S, we’re starting off by taking a look at last week’s S&S (Edition #006 to be specific). In that post, we featured an item that covered 20 garage workshop layout ideas. If you’ve already taken some of those ideas to heart and have completely reimagined your garage workspace, good for you! Gold star, my friend. We’ve got another surprise for you related to your new garage workspace.
If you haven't yet gotten to actually setting up your new workspace but you have plans to do so, don’t worry, this surprise will be for you as well. We just can’t give you the gold star. No participation trophies around here.
The DIY Huntress has some thoughts on how you can get your newly designed workspace organized with this blog post featuring easy hacks for organizing your small workspace.
She offers some really nice tips on how to use scrap wood to build organizers for nails, screws, drill bits, washers, etc., and she has a nice video tutorial linked in the post that shows how she built a mobile miter saw stand with storage cabinets out of some leftover plywood.
She also has a great suggestion on using a battery charging station that hangs on the wall so it’s not taking up space on a work surface or cabinet storage, as well as tips on vertical storage using pegboards, a spiffy wall storage option for clamps, drawer slides, overhead storage – again using scrap wood, and speaking of scrap wood, a system for organizing all those leftovers.
Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Virtual inspiration: Charming home exteriors
The Inspired Room blog recently featured an idea that we just love because it harkens back to a real-life activity that can be so useful when it comes to getting inspiration and ideas for sprucing up your own home’s exterior.
Driving through neighborhoods, particularly older neighborhoods with lots of charming homes, is a fantastic way to spark your imagination by seeing what other homeowners are doing to create some magical curb appeal. But what do you do when you’ve explored all the neighborhoods close to you? You go virtual and do the same thing.

In a post titled Charming Home Exteriors: Sunday Strolls & Scrolls, several gorgeous older homes are featured that will help shape your vision for what you can do with your own home’s exterior.
Best of all, this is a regular feature of the blog, and there is a treasure trove of previous Strolls & Scrolls to provide tons of inspiration for you. Use them as a starting point to create a Pinterest board to preserve the ideas that speak to you the most.
Timeless home decor
New trends in anything can be exciting, whether it’s fashion, music, or home decor. It’s understandable to be drawn to fresh concepts, but the downside is that trends can be fleeting because they start to reach a point of over-saturation once more and more people start adopting them before they fall out of favor as a result.
If you want to create a look and feel that will stand the test of time, Elegant Simplicity has a fantastic blog post that will help you create an interior design for your home that will never go out of style.

Rather than get caught up in the homogeneity of trends, the post advocates for instilling your personal expression into your home’s decor. Think of it as getting a tattoo that has deep meaning and connection to your life vs. going into a tattoo shop and choosing a dolphin or butterfly from the shop’s book of premade designs.
From the blog post:
“Trendy pieces might catch your eye, but do they fit into your lifestyle and family values? Do they spark joy and encourage mindful communication? If the answer is no, you might want to keep scrolling.
Remember, you are the ones who will be sitting on the sofa, gathering for family game and movie nights, and finding moments to connect and reflect. A timeless design allows you to create spaces that feel just right and support your family’s core values, one shared bowl of popcorn at a time.”
Beyond the philosophical considerations, there are also several practical suggestions that will help provide a solid foundation for creating a timeless home interior like using neutral palettes and classic silhouettes, focusing on quality materials and craftsmanship.
Ultimately, it’s about creating a space that feels right for you and your family. It should be authentic. Your decor should reflect your personality, design goals, values, and lifestyle. As the blog states, those things “will always be in style.”
Strawberries from festivals to shortcake
The Floral City Strawberry Festival wrapped up its 38th year, and it was a doozy. The event featured a pie-eating contest, live music, arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden, and loads of wholesome fun for the entire family.

Additionally, the king of strawberry festivals (at least in Florida) just ended its 2025 run as well. The Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City had even more events, performances by major musical acts and entertainers, a massive midway with carnival rides and yummy festival food vendors, plus all the usual livestock and agricultural competitions, and yes, strawberries.

Growing up in Tampa, I have MANY fond memories of driving over to Plant City for the Florida Strawberry Festival. One of those fond memories involved enjoying the delicious strawberry shortcake the festival served every year (it was free back then, BTW), and with that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to share a recipe for this delicious, fruity dessert.
Fortunately, the Sweet C’s blog accommodated me just in the nick of time by publishing this easy strawberry shortcake recipe this week.
Everything is from scratch, but not to worry, it really is a very simple recipe. The three elements you’ll need to make is the sponge cake, strawberry topping, and whipped cream.
Strawberry shortcake from the Sweet C blog
The thing I love most about this recipe is that the sponge cake calls for Greek yogurt as one of the ingredients, which should impart a slight tang to the cake. There’s nothing better or more refreshing as we head into warmer temperatures than a sweet, tart, fruity dessert like this one.
Here’s how Sweet C herself describes the finished product:
“The sponge cake provides a soft, fluffy base with a balanced sweetness and slight richness.
The strawberries add a fresh, juicy contrast that cuts through the richness of the cake and cream.
The whipped cream brings lightness and creaminess, making the dessert airy and indulgent.”
For a little more tanginess, you might even consider adding some lemon juice to the macerated strawberries. YUMMY!
That’s it for this week. Let us know your thoughts about any or all of the featured posts in this edition of Styled & Savored, and tell us what you’d like to see us cover in future editions as well.
